Colombia’s mining future tied to metals not coal, Minister says

Colombia’s mining future is in metals and not coal, Minister of Mines and Energy Diego Mesa said, and the Andean country will continue developing oil and gas projects, including non-conventional deposits. With mining concessions covering just 3% of Colombia’s territory and mining operations in less than 1% of the country, there is great opportunity, particularly for gold, copper and nickel mining. Colombia is the world’s fifth-largest coal.
