Last year, foreign direct investment (FDI) plummeted by 46% in Colombia. It went from $14,314 billion in 2019 to $ 7,690 billion in 2020, said the Colombian Central Bank. Investment in transport, storage and communications shrank the most.
In 2020 the largest two coal mining companies in Colombia registered a significant contraction in their exports. Drummond's exports dropped by 6.1%, from 31,1 million tons in 2019 to 29,2 million tons. Cerrejón had a dramatic fall of 48.3% from 26,3 million to 13,6 in the same period.
Chilean power company, AES Gener, registered a fall in its hydroelectric energy production in Colombia by 41% to 2,653 MW. In contrast, solar soared by 550% to 26 MW.
Asobancaria announced that loan disbursements for home purchases increased by 57% in 2020 compared to 2019. Current homeownership subsidies, through the Vivienda de Interés Social (VIS) policy, boosted this expansion.
